| The Perth Branch of the Community commenced on
Trinity Sunday,1988 after one family moved from Sydney to seek to
establish the Community presence in this State. Since then it has
grown to around 220 adults, teens, and children. Members come from
all age groups, occupations, and geographical areas (although we do
find advantages when we live closer together).
Our way of life is expressed in the Common
Elements of the Disciples of Jesus Covenant Community. It is
lived out on a daily basis through our shared life. This involves
weekly small group discussion and sharing, communal prayer, social
activities, and evangelising mission. In addition to our personal
daily prayer, many of our members take a hour or so a week to pray
before the Blessed Sacrament, particularly in the Chapel at our
Community Centre, and the Holy Spirit Parish Church. The Parish
Priest, Father Tom Phelan, who is a member of the Community, is
a spiritual dynamo and we are very blessed through his ministry.
So too are Father Doug Harris (Glendalough Parish) and Father Wayne
Bendotti (Narrogin/Wagin Parish)
Prayer vigils and Novenas in preparation for coming events are
part of our way of life. In addition to the immense spiritual blessings
we receive personally and collectively, we benefit also from the
growth in relationships ...... something happens when we pray together!!
(Someone once said, "When people work, people work ... but
when people pray, God works".)
The Community is represented on the State Service Committee of
the Catholic Charismatic Renewal, and as a consequence of this we
participate in organising Diocescan wide Rallies, Conferences (eg
Pentecost) and special Masses.
We have a strong focus on youth. 24:7
Youth Ministry (check out their website!) has its weekly Friday night Youth Group, and it also
runs lunchtime activities in several Catholic High Schools.
This is designed to support our fulltime Evangelists - the
Youth Mission Team - who run High School
retreats and weekends. These guys are dynamic. They 'walk the talk'
and their radical lifestyle of prayer and mission is truly inspirational.
In 2005 we commenced a Catholic Bible College,
based in our Perth Community Centre. The Acts
2 College of Mission & Evangelisation is about
fostering a change in your life. The kind of change that only God
can bring. The kind of change that helps you focus your life. The
kind of change that can have a positive impact on your world. The
College is ideal for people who may have drifted from the Church,
as well as those who seek an alive and active faith.
Life in the Spirit, and Living a New Life in the Spirit, seminars
are held regularly in the Community Centre. Upwards of 50 people particpate in these life changing seminars.
We are also involved in ecumenical activities such as the "Leadership
Summit ", Church Together, youth outreaches, etc.
Community
Gatherings
Sunday is the Lord's Day. Each Sunday afternoon, we have the opportunity
to gather together in praise and worship of God, and to encourage
one another.
The first Sunday of each month is a time we specifically set aside
to welcome visitors to our Gathering. You are most welcome to join
us on one of these Sundays, and this can be arranged through a member
you may know, or by emailing
us. for more details (please include your phone number
so we can ring you).
Community
Centre
We have been mightily blessed by God in having a Community Centre
provided for our exclusive use. The Centre allows for an auditorium,
youth, child, baby, and socialising facilities, Chapel, and Office
and Bible College rooms.
Social
We welcome visitors to a range of social activities, including
Saturday evening Celebration Meals, picnics, sausage sizzles, dances,
quiz nights, and the like. We also have specific youth focused events.
If you would like to know more about coming social events, email
us, or phone Paul at our Centre (9202
6857). If you email, please include your phone number so we can
ring you.
